Our Old Home

The Georgian House:

Before I lived in my latest home, I lived in a Georgian Grade II Listed house, which was fabulous and I loved restoring and decorating it and creating a home, but it was always really cold!

The house was very tired when we moved in, and it needed a new kitchen, decorating throughout, plumbing upgrades, window replacement,  landscaping in the garden and the conversion of a huge dark basement into a useable space.  There was also a coach house attached which I turned into the ultimate man cave for my husband.

I learnt a lot about renovating Listed Buildings, right down to drawing scaled plans for any alterations required which were fiddly to do but saved a fortune in architect’s costs.  The house was also in a Conservation area, and we carefully restored exterior stone and railings which had been badly neglected by the time we purchased the house.  Although restoration is more expensive than usual building work, it is something that you just take on the chin when you buy a Listed property.  After all, who else gets to be a custodian of a 300 year old house with an amazing history.
